Música da Semana: Big Boi – Follow Us

Big Boi

Na ativa desde: 1991
Onde: Georgia, EUA

Follow Us (do álbum Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty – 2010)

The Son of Chico Dusty.

Big Boi]
With one stroke of the pen I tune in to your satellite radio
or FM station; I’ve been patiently waitin, to weigh in
Been under construction for two years
But now it’s ‘bout that time I double-dutch my way in
Left foot, right foot, steppin over biters
It’s like the game is haunted cause there’s so many ghostwriters
Me, see I’m a lifer with supply that may seem endless
Straight rider like a biker on a chopper with a hitlist
Witness, the nigga that spit that vicious
Pitbull attack shit when it comes to this rap shit
… Daddy Fat Sax (bitch) follow us

[Chorus 2X: Neil Garrard]
Follow us, now
Try to all the way, now
It’s not another let, down
Got somethin to say, right now

[Big Boi]
I know some of y’all done wrote a nigga off
Like the leases on these cars and these homes you niggaz thought
you stayed in, with so many bosses why are they still
layin niggaz off they job? Nigga for real
Gon’ give a nigga a gig then
Help a brother get up out this pigpen
But nobody wants to keep it pimpin or 110
So with this pen I begin to illustrate from within, boy (boy)

[Neil Garrard]
Paint a pretty picture like I’m chillin with my friends
Everybody’s got a pocket full of ends to spend

[Big Boi]
See Picasso couldn’t blend, put it all together or fit in
I’m like a crocodile walkin ‘round with alligator skin
Yes I’m is, the product of the ghetto where I lived
Call me Spongebob boy (boy) soaked up game as a little bitty kid
And never been a lame, before the fame I was the shit
And now I’m just Big, ya dig?

[Chorus]

[Neil Garrard]
Why don’t you come and find out
What this is all, about
I, will only say this once
So, come and follow us

[Big Boi]
See we not even gonna play with ‘em either
We gon’ la-la-lay it down every fuckin time we see ‘em
Make the club get crunk, yea, we them type of people
But wait, it’s not a sequel, no wait, it’s BB’s prequel
The beginnin before the beginnin, spend it how you spend it
Then, if you sell dope nigga stack it when you get it
Can’t trick it, or spend it until it’s gone
That’s slippery business holmes, gon’ get you a business loan
C’mon!

[Chorus]

[Outro: Big Rube]
Now I lay you niggaz down
You already sleep so bitch rest in eternal peace
You still scared of the Boogeyman?
I know you hatin but you know you was a ‘Kast and a Goodie fan
Ain’t no night light, it’s light’s out
I put these lyrics up your ass so far you never get the mic out
I know who you wanna sound like
With that Fruity Loop bullshit, fuck nigga night-night

Music Monday: The Killers – All These Things That I’ve Done

The Killers

Ano de formação: 2002
Local: Las Vegas, EUA
Integrantes: Brandon Flowers, Mark Stoermer, Dave Keuning, Ronnie Vannuci

All These Things That I’ve Done (do álbum Hot Fuss – 2004)

When there’s nowhere else to run
Is there room for one more son?
One more son
If you can hold on
If you can hold on, hold on

I wanna stand up, I wanna let go
You know, you know, no you don’t, you don’t
I wanna shine on, in the hearts of men
I want a meaning from the back of my broken hand

Another head aches, another heart breaks
I’m so much older than I can take
And my affection, well it comes and goes
I need direction to perfection, no no no no

Help me out, yeah
You know you gotta help me out, yeah
Oh, don’t you put me on the back burner
You know you gotta help me out, yeah

And when there’s nowhere else to run
Is there room for one more son?
These changes ain’t changing me
The cold hearted boy I used to be

Yeah, you know you gotta help me out, yeah
Oh don’t you put me on the back burner
You know you gotta help me out, yeah
You’re gonna bring yourself down, yeah
You’re gonna bring yourself down, yeah
You’re gonna bring yourself down

I got soul, but I’m not a soldier
I got soul, but I’m not a soldier
I got soul, but I’m not a soldier
I got soul, but I’m not a soldier

I got soul, but I’m not a soldier
I got soul, but I’m not a soldier
I got soul, but I’m not a soldier
I got soul, but I’m not a soldier

I got soul, but I’m not a soldier
I got soul, but I’m not a soldier
(Time, truth, and hearts)

Yeah, you know you gotta help me out, yeah
Oh don’t you put me on the back burner
You know you gotta help me out, yeah

You’re gonna bring yourself down, yeah
You’re gonna bring yourself down, yeah
Oh don’t you put me on the back burner
You’re gonna bring yourself down, yeah
You’re gonna bring yourself down

Over and in, last call for sin
While everyone’s lost, the battle is won
With all these things that I’ve done

All these things that I’ve done
(Time, truth, and hearts)
If you can hold on
If you can hold on

Surfer Blood – Astro Coast

Astro Coast by Surfer Blood

Disco: Astro Coast
Banda: Surfer Blood

Weezer, Built to Spill…

Nota: 8

Música obrigatória (37ª melhor de 2009, segundo a Pitchfork): Swim
Minha preferida: Fast Jabroni

Música da Semana: The National – Anyone’s Ghost

The National

Ano de formação: 1999
Local: Cincinatti, EUA
Integrantes: Brice Dessner, Matt Berninger, Bryan Devendorf, Aaron Dessner, Scott Devendorf e Padma Newsome.

Anyone’s Ghost (do álbum High Violet – 2010)

Say you stay at home
Alone with the flu
Find out from friends
That wasn't true
Go out at night with your headphones on, again
And walk through the Manhattan valleys of, the dead

Didn't want to be your ghost
Didn't want to be anyone's ghost
Didn't want to be your ghost
Didn't want to be anyone's ghost
But I don't want anybody else
I don't want anybody else

You said I came close
As anyone has come
To live underwater
For more than a month
You said it was not inside my heart, it was
You said it should tear a kid apart, it does

Didn't want to be your ghost
Didn't want to be anyone's ghost
Didn't want to be your ghost
Didn't want to be anyone's ghost
But I don't want anybody else
I don't want anybody else
I don't want anybody else
I don't want anybody else

I had a hole in the middle where the lightning went through it
Told my friends not to worry
I had a hole in the middle someone's sideshow wouldn't do it
I told my friends not to worry

Didn't want to be your ghost
Didn't want to be anyone's ghost
Didn't want to be your ghost
Didn't want to be anyone's ghost

Música da Semana: Bob Dylan – Changing Of The Guards

Bob Dylan

Changing Of The Guards (do álbum Street Legal – 1978)

Sixteen years
Sixteen banners united over the field
Where the good shepherd grieves
Desperate men, desperate women divided
Spreading their wings ’neath the falling leaves

Fortune calls
I stepped forth from the shadows, to the marketplace
Merchants and thieves, hungry for power, my last deal gone down
She’s smelling sweet like the meadows where she was born
On midsummer’s eve, near the tower

The cold-blooded moon
The captain waits above the celebration
Sending his thoughts to a beloved maid
Whose ebony face is beyond communication
The captain is down but still believing that his love will be repaid

They shaved her head
She was torn between Jupiter and Apollo
A messenger arrived with a black nightingale
I seen her on the stairs and I couldn’t help but follow
Follow her down past the fountain where they lifted her veil

I stumbled to my feet
I rode past destruction in the ditches
With the stitches still mending ’neath a heart-shaped tattoo
Renegade priests and treacherous young witches
Were handing out the flowers that I’d given to you

The palace of mirrors
Where dog soldiers are reflected
The endless road and the wailing of chimes
The empty rooms where her memory is protected
Where the angels’ voices whisper to the souls of previous times

She wakes him up
Forty-eight hours later, the sun is breaking
Near broken chains, mountain laurel and rolling rocks
She’s begging to know what measures he now will be taking
He’s pulling her down and she’s clutching on to his long golden locks

Gentlemen, he said
I don’t need your organization, I’ve shined your shoes
I’ve moved your mountains and marked your cards
But Eden is burning, either brace yourself for elimination
Or else your hearts must have the courage for the changing of the guards

Peace will come
With tranquillity and splendor on the wheels of fire
But will bring us no reward when her false idols fall
And cruel death surrenders with its pale ghost retreating
Between the King and the Queen of Swords

Música da Semana: Dr. Dog – Where’d All The Time Go

Dr. Dog

Ano de formação: 1999
Local: Filadélfia, EUA
Integrantes: Scott McMicken, Toby Leaman, Zach miller, Erick Slick, Frank McElroy.

Where’d All The Time Go (do álbum Shame, Shame – 2010)

Where’d all the time go?
It’s starting to fly.
See how the hands go;
Waving goodbye.

And you know I get so forgetful
when I look in your eyes.

Now she’s walking backwards
through a parade.
And I’m stuck in the shadow
blocking the shade.

And there ain’t no way to sweep up the mess that we’ve made
She gets dressed up like a pillow so she’s always in bed

Flowers for the sick and dead
She’s on the go, way too fast and way too slow
She’ll turn to stone at hospitals and funeral homes
and when the fog rises somebody sighs who is not in disguise anymore

There’s nothing to keep you
from falling in love.
It starts at the bottom
and comes from above.

Like pieces of a puzzle, like a hand in a glove
She gets dressed up like a pillow so she’s always in bed

Flowers for the sick and dead
She’s on the go, way too fast and way too slow
She’ll turn and stop at hospitals and funeral homes
and when the tide rises somebody sinks and is gone in the blink of an eye

Música da Semana: Beach House – Zebra

Beach House

Ano de formação: 2004
Local: Baltimore, EUA
Integrantes: Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones e John Bonham

Zebra

You know you're gold, you don't got to worry none
Oasis child, born and so wild
Don't I know you better than the rest
All deception, all deception from you

Your love is stag in the white sand
Wilderness for miles, eyes so mild and wise
Don't I know you better than the rest
All deception, all deception from you

Any way you run, you run before us
Black and white horse arching among us

Your love is stag in the white sand
Oasis child born into a man
Don't I know you better than the rest
All deception, all deception from you

Wilderness for miles, eyes so mild and wise
Oasis child, born and so wild
Don't I know you better than the rest
All deception, all deception from you

Any way you run, you run before us
Black and white horse arching among us

Música da Semana: Led Zeppelin – Tangerine

Led Zeppelin

Ano de formação: 1960
Local: Londres Inglaterra
Integrantes: Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones e John Bonham

Confiram.

Tangerine

Measuring a summer’s day, I only finds it slips away to grey,
The hours, they bring me pain.

Tangerine, Tangerine, Living reflection from a dream;

I was her love, she was my queen, And now a thousand years between.

Thinking how it used to be, Does she still remember times like these?

To think of us again? And I do.

Tangerine, Tangerine, Living reflection from a dream;
I was her love, she was my queen, And now a thousand years between.

Música da Semana: Arcade Fire – Wake Up

Arcade Fire

Ano de formação: 2003
Local: Montreal, Canadá
Integrantes: Win Butler, Régine Chassagne, Richard Reed Parry, William Butler, Tim Kingsbury, Sarah Neufeld, Jeremy Gara.

Wake Up

Somethin’ filled up
my heart with nothin’,
someone told me not to cry.

But now that I’m older,
my heart’s colder,
and I can see that it’s a lie.

Children wake up,
hold your mistake up,
before they turn the summer into dust.

If the children don’t grow up,
our bodies get bigger but our hearts get torn up.
We’re just a million little god’s causin rain storms turnin’ every good thing to rust.

I guess we’ll just have to adjust.

With my lighnin’ bolts a glowin’
I can see where I am goin’ to be
when the reaper he reaches and touches my hand.

With my lighnin’ bolts a glowin’
I can see where I am goin’
With my lighnin’ bolts a glowin’
I can see where I am go-goin’

You better look out below!

Música da Semana: Los Campesinos – We’ve Got Your Back

Los Campesinos

Ano de formação: 2006
Local: Cardiff, País de Gales
Integrantes: Ellen, Gareth, Harriet, Neil, Ollie, Tom, Kim.

We’ve Got Your Back

On the dashboard assembled
Descending height order

Half a decade of Father’s Day
Gets her mother bought for, her mother passed on
Puppy eyes, nasty reaction
Doe eyes, you’re kidding yourself

I learned remedial Spanish from a toddler
Passenger’s seat of father’s taxi
Cussing in unison
Clutching the seats and distant hand writing
Filled with a sense of great disappointment
Doe eyes, you’re kidding yourself

So fucking on
So fucking forth
We’ve got your back, whatever that’s worth
If they ever told you to go (?) what would you do
I do not know
Every girl I ever kissed I was thinking of a pro footballer

Thought you should know

I’ve learned more from toilet walls
Than I’ve learned from these words of yours
Your feelings are buried in scriptures and fictions
It’s all in the words but I’m here for the pictures

(I’m sweating off the cheap notes on my thighs
They were for your benefit not mine)

So fucking on
So fucking forth
They’ve got your back whatever that’s worth
If they ever told you to (?) what would we do?
I do not know
If it wasn’t for the courage to ask for mercy what would we do?

Sometimes only you will know
We’re cementing old friends
Dismissing old foes
We’re throwing punches and ducking blows

Música da Semana: Editors – Munich

Editors

Ano de formação: 2002
Local: Birmingham, Inglaterra
Integrantes: Tom Smith, Chris Urbanowicz, Russ Leetch e Ed Lay.
